Description
This is the Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800. Unlike Coal Mines, you can place it anywhere on your islands, and it will continuously produce charcoal by harvesting nearby trees. Because of this, the Kiln acts as a direct replacement for coal when there aren’t any coal deposits available. In the early game, it also gives you access to fuel long before Coal Mines unlock. As a result, the Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800 sits at the very start of both the Steel beam production chain and the Weapons production chain. In terms of output, it produces one ton of charcoal every 30 seconds, or two tons per minute.
What is produced
Charcoal is produced at the Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800, where workers harvest nearby trees and burn them down to create fuel. Because of this, it becomes a reliable early game resource that feeds directly into your Furnace for steel production, as well as several other crafting processes. Beyond its industrial uses, charcoal can also be taken on expeditions, and every 50 tons provides 15 bonus hunting skill and 15 bonus morale. As a result, it serves as both a practical fuel source and a valuable support item for tougher journeys.

Improvements
When improving the Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800, the first step is choosing the right placement to maximise efficiency. After that, you can review which Trade Union items boost its productivity and decide which ones best support your layout. Once those upgrades are in place, adding electricity becomes the next major improvement, giving the Kiln a substantial performance boost. As a result, your fuel supply scales more easily with growing demand, keeping your production chain running smoothly.
Placement
The Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800 needs a large open area when you place it, because it must plant and harvest trees to produce charcoal. In the same way, that the Lumberjack’s Hut also relies on a wide forested zone to stay efficient. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at how to position the kiln so it can operate at full productivity.

Here we can see that we have placed the Charcoal kiln with plenty of space around it, that then leads into the furnace for creating steel.
Trade union
Here we will look at some of the items that can be added to a Trade union to increase the efficiency of the Charcoal kiln.

Layouts
In this section we will be looking at some of the layouts that can be used with the Charcoal Kiln in Anno 1800. Lets now have a look at the layouts for the Charcoal Kiln.
Option 1
In this layout we will be placing down the Charcoal Kiln and a Furnace that can process the coal and the iron from the mine.

Here, the Charcoal Kiln sits on the left, with the Furnace placed directly to its right. To keep the chain efficient, the Furnace also needs to sit close to an Iron Mine so it can receive ore quickly.
