Description
The Rendering Works in Anno 1800 turns pigs into tallow, placing it at the centre of the Soap production chain. To unlock it, you’ll need 300 Workers, which puts it in the mid game stage of your progression. Once it’s operating, the building converts one ton of pigs into one ton of tallow every minute, giving you a steady supply for the Soap production chain. Additionally, the Rendering Works can only be built in the Old World, so you’ll need to plan your layout and workforce accordingly.
What it produces
The Rendering works in Anno 1800 takes in pigs and produces tallow. Tallow is the fat that you obtain by processing pigs in the Rendering works. Once you have tallow it is then sent to the Soap factory for turning into soap. Tallow has no benefit when taken on expeditions.

Improvements
When looking at improvements for the the Rendering works in Anno 1800 one of the key things that can be done is placing it close to the Pig farm that will supply it. The next thing that can be done is to place it in the influence range of a Trade union. Finally, by supplying it with electricity. Be aware that electricity only becomes available at Engineer level.
Placement
When looking at the placement of the Rendering works we need to ensure that it is placed as close as possible to a Pig farm. This will ensure that their is minimal traveling distance meaning a more efficient production chain.

We have also added a Warehouse to this layout so that the tallow enters your inventory as quick as possible.
Trade union
The Trade union is a building that will supply benefits to the surrounding buildings. When dealing with the Trade union it is important to remember that a building can only be supplied by one Trade union. So when planning the layout for the Rendering works it is important to remember that it can only be covered by one Trade union. Lets now take a look at what items can be added to the Trade union to improve the Rendering works.
| Item name | Effects | Notes/rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury thermometer | +25% Productivity | Common |
| Soap maker | +35% Productivity | Common |
| Slurry pit | -50% Attractiveness, +20% Maintenance Cost | Rare |
| Sophisticated slurry lagoon | -75% Attractiveness, +10% Maintenance Cost | Epic |
| Thielemann’s tube | +50% Productivity | Epic |
These are some of the items that you can add to your Trade union that can improve the Rendering works in Anno 1800.
Electricity
The Rendering works in Anno 1800 can be run using electricity. Electricity becomes available at Engineer level. When the Rendering works in Anno 1800 are supplied by electricity it will double the productivity. Remember that when you supply it with electricity you will also need to increase the Pig farms that supply it.
Layouts
In this section we will look at what layouts you can use for the Rendering works in Anno 1800. When dealing with these layouts you will need to place Pig farms close to the rendering works.
Option 1
Here we can see that the Rendering works is placed directly across the road from the Pig farm. This will mean that the pigs have a minimal travel distance increasing the efficiency.

This is a very simple layout that can be built as soon as the Rendering works becomes available. The Warehouse in this layout means that the tallow will be available quickly. This layout will produce one ton of tallow every minute.
Option 2
In this layout we look at a more complex layout that contain two pig farms and two Rendering works. We have also placed a Warehouse in this design so that the tallow can become available to the Soap factory as soon as possible.

This is a more complicated layout that will produce two tons of tallow every minute.
