Description
The Sailmaker in Anno 1800 is the final building in the Sails production chain, and it plays a crucial role once you reach the Worker tier. After receiving wool from your Sheep Farms, the building processes it into Sails, which are then required by the Sailing Shipyard. As a result, producing Sails early on helps you unlock shipbuilding sooner, giving you access to trade routes, expeditions, and naval strength.
In terms of output, the Sailmaker in Anno 1800 works at a steady pace, creating one ton of sails every 30 seconds, equivalent to two tons per minute. Because of this consistent production rate, ensuring a reliable wool supply becomes especially important as your fleet expands.
What is produced
The Sailmaker in Anno 1800 produces Sails. Sails are core element when you get to worker level in Anno 1800. It is recommended that you start producing sails as soon as possible to enable you to build sailing ships, Ships are an important item in Anno 1800 as they will allow for trade and military. They will also enable you to go on expeditions. You can purchase sails from the pirates in the game, When taking sails on expeditions they +20 points for crafting skill along with +20 morale points per 50 tons.

Improvements
When improving the Sailmaker in Anno 1800, there are several upgrades worth considering. To begin with, the placement plays a major role in overall efficiency, so be sure to position the building where both its input and output can flow smoothly is an important first step. From there, placing the Sailmaker within the influence radius of a Trade Union opens the door to even greater productivity. Once it’s covered by a Trade Union, you can add specialist items that boost output, reduce workforce, or enhance efficiency. Finally, supplying the building with electricity provides a significant performance increase, and this option becomes available once you reach the Engineers tier.
Placement
In the placement we can either place the Sailmaker next to Sheep farm or we can place it by a Warehouse. This will enable the Sailmakers to be supplied efficiently.

Here we can see the flow of goods from the Sheep farm to the Sailmakers in Anno 1800. If you wished to build your Sailmaker away from the Sheep farm you could place a Warehouse where the sheep farm is in this layout.
Trade union
The Trade Union is a support building that allows you to place specialist items inside it, and as a result, it can significantly increase the efficiency of any production buildings within its range. Because of this, positioning your Sailmaker and other key industrial buildings within range of its influence becomes an important part of optimising your overall Sails production chain.
| Item name | Effect | Rarity/notes |

| The Hopedale Loom | Productivity: +40% Workforce Needed: -25% | Epic Expedition: Crafting +20 |
Electricity
Here we are looking at electricity, Electricity becomes available at the Engineer level and will double the output of the Sailmaker in Anno 1800. You need to remember that when you supply it with electricity you will also need to double the input from the sheep farm.
Layouts
In this section we will be looking at the layouts that you can use for the Sailmaker in Anno 1800. We will need to ensure that the Sailmaker has good access to the Sheep farm and also that the Sailing shipyard is close by.
Option 1
In this layout we can see that we have to Sheep farm placed next to the sailmaker. We can also see that their is a Warehouse, this will mean that the sails enter your inventory as soon as possible.

The layout will produce one ton of sails every 30 seconds. So two tons per minute.
Option 2
In this layout we will be doubling production. As we can see there are two Sheep farms each containing three sheep folds. This will give maximum capacity for the Sheep farms. These are directly linked to the Sailmakers and then onto the Warehouse. This will mean that the sails enter your inventory as quickly as possible.

This layout will produce one ton of sails every 15 seconds so four tons a minute.
