Description
This is the Cotton Mill, it is used to produce Cotton Fabric in Anno 1800. The Cotton Mill will take Cotton from the Cotton Plantation and convert this into Cotton Fabric. It sits in the middle of the chain and will require Cotton from the Cotton Plantation and then this will go to either the Old World for the Fur Coat production chain or remain the New world for the production of Sails and Bowler Hats. The Cotton Mill produces Cotton Fabric and will produce this at 30 seconds for one ton of Cotton Fabric from one ton of Cotton.
What is produced
This is the Cotton Mill and it used for the production of Cotton Fabric in Anno 1800. This is created from the Cotton Plantation. Cotton Fabric in Anno 1800 is used for few items in your World that include Bowler Hats and the Fur coat production chain.
When taking Cotton Fabric on expeditions, you’ll gain 15 Medicine and 30 Morale for every 50 tons you bring. In addition, these bonuses make Cotton Fabric a reliable support item for longer or more demanding journeys.

Improvements
“In this section, we’ll look at the improvements you can make to increase the productivity and efficiency of the Cotton Mill. To begin with, one of the most effective ways to boost its performance is through smart placement. In particular, positioning the Cotton Mill close to its supporting buildings helps keep the entire production chain running smoothly. Hence, we will need to place it either close by the Cotton Plantation or by a Warehouse. This will mean that the Cotton from the Cotton Plantation will arrive at the Cotton Mill in good time.
To continue on this trend, when moving the Cotton Fabric on, you will have to have a Warehouse close by so that the Cotton Fabric can enter your inventory promptly. The next thing that we can so is add a Trade Union that can cover the Cotton Mill. We can add items to the Trade Union that will then increase the productivity and efficiency of the Cotton Mill. The final thing that we can do is add electricity to the Cotton Mill.
Placement
In this section we will look at the placement of the Cotton Mill. Here we will place down a simple layout that will include a Cotton Plantation, Cotton Mill and a Warehouse.

Trade union
Here we will look at what items can be added to the Trade Union to improve the Cotton Mill. These items can be obtained at the Research institute, Traders, going on expeditions, quests and world events and looting and salvage. Lets take a look at some of the items that can effect the Cotton Mill.
| Item name | Effect | Rarity/Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hat maker | Productivity: +10% | Common, Expedition bonus – +5 Crafting |
| Mechanical loom | Productivity: +25% | Uncommon, Expedition bonus – +10 Crafting |
| Power loom | Productivity: +35% | Rare, Expedition bonus – +15 Crafting |
| Optimised automatic loom | Productivity: +50%, Maintenance Cost: -20%, Workforce Needed: -25% | Epic |
| The Hopedale loom | Productivity: +40%, Workforce Needed: -25% | Epic, +20 Crafting |
These are some of the best items that you can use for the Cotton Mill.
Electricity
When you get to the Engineer level you will have the choice of adding electricity. If you add electricity to the Cotton Mill it will double its output. However, this increase also means you must double the incoming Cotton to keep the Mill running smoothly. As a result, planning your supply chain becomes even more important once electricity is introduced.
Layouts
Here we will look at what layouts you can use for the Cotton Mill. When dealing with layouts it is important that you place them close to the Cotton Plantation and/or a Warehouse. This will mean that you can get your Cotton Fabric back into your inventory in a quick and efficient manor. Lets take a look at these now.
Option 1
In this layout we will be placing down a Cotton Plantation along with the Cotton Mill. We will be placing down the Cotton Plantation next to the Cotton Mill. This will then go into the Warehouse so that it can distributed around your Empire via a Trade Post.

This layout produces two tons of Cotton Fabric every minute.
Option 2
In this layout we will be be doubling the output from the Cotton Mill by placing down two. You will notice that the input from the Cotton Plantation has also been doubled to accommodate the extra Cotton Mill. In this build we have also placed a Warehouse and two Sailmakers.

This layout will produce four tons of Cotton Fabric per minute. With the Sailmakers attached it will produce four tons of sails a minute.
