Description
The Sand Mine in Anno 1800 sits at the start of the Windows production chain. To begin using the Sand Mine you will first need to find a spare area in your harbour. Because the Sand Mine uses a large section of coastline, you’ll need to plan your harbour layout carefully to avoid overcrowding.
The Sand Mine will provide sand to the Glassmaker which will can then be used in numerous other items. These include Windows, Glasses and Light bulbs along with other items in your Anno 1800 world. The Sand Mine takes 30 seconds to produce one ton of sand or two tons per minute. The Sand Mine is an essential building that is at the start of the Windows production chain at Artisan level, along with other production chains further into the game.
What is produced

Improvements
In this section we will look at the improvements that can be made to the Sand Mine in Anno 1800. One of the first things that we will look at is the placement of the Sand Mine. Next up, we will look at what items can be added to the Trade union to improve productivity and efficiency. In the final section we will look at what electricity can bring to the Sand Mine for improved productivity.
Placement
In this section we will have a quick look at the placement of the Sand Mine in Anno 1800 to increase its productivity and efficiency. When placing the Sand Mine, it’s important to position it carefully because it takes up a large amount of coastline. In addition, you’ll also need room nearby for the Glassmaker and the Window Maker, which are both required for the Windows production chain at this level.
Here is a simple layout for the Sand Mine in Anno 1800. We have also added a Glassmaker and a Windows maker just as an example.

This design also includes a Warehouse so that the Windows will appear in your inventory quicker.
Trade union
Here we will look at what options are available at the Trade union. The Trade Union will add benefits to the buildings in its range of influence. This works by placing a Trade Union and then adding items into its slots. Once the items are equipped, any buildings within its range will receive their bonuses. However, because the Trade Union only has three item slots, it’s important to choose items that will benefit the greatest number of buildings in its area of influence.
Lets take a look at what can be placed in the Trade Union for the Sand Mine in Anno 1800.
Electricity
When electricity is supplied to the Sand Mine, its output doubles. As a result, you can support more Glassmakers and Window Makers in your production chain. However, this increase only works effectively if those buildings also receive electricity, ensuring the entire chain benefits from the boost.
Layout
In this section, we’ll look at effective layout options for the Sand Mine in Anno 1800. Because the Sand Mine is an essential building, it’s important to leave enough space for it along your harbour when planning your island layout.
Option 1
This is the simplest layout for the Sand Mine. This layout of the Sand Mine is massively restricted as you will need to place the Sand Mine into the harbour area.

Here we can see the the Windows production chain. This is not a complete production chain and will need extra buildings to accommodate the full Windows production chain.
