Description
This is the Goldsmiths, and it converts your Gold Ore from the Gold Mine into refined Gold in Anno 1800. To start, the Goldsmiths is a middle building, meaning it takes in Gold Ore and then sends refined Gold on to the next stage of production.
Next, the Goldsmiths receives its Gold Ore from the New World, where your Gold Mines are located. Once the ore arrives, the building begins processing it right away.
At 100% productivity, the Goldsmiths takes one minute to turn one ton of Gold Ore into one ton of Gold, giving you a steady supply for high‑tier goods like Pocket Watches production chain and the Jewellery production chain.
What is produced
This is Gold in Anno 1800, and it acts as an intermediate material created from Gold Ore. To start, Gold Ore comes from the New World, and you ship it to the Old World before refining it in to Gold.
Next, producing Gold in Anno 1800, requires both Gold Ore and Coal, which the Goldsmiths process together. Once the Goldsmiths receive the ore, they actively refine it into Gold, giving you a steady supply for your advanced goods.
After refining, Gold in Anno 1800 moves on to two important buildings: the Clockmakers and the Jewellers, both of which depend on it for their final products.
Finally, Gold in Anno 1800 offers no bonuses on Expeditions, so its value comes entirely from how it supports your production chains.

Improvements
In this section, we’ll look at the improvements you can make to the Goldsmiths. To start, we’ll focus on placement, since positioning the Goldsmiths correctly helps keep your production chain running smoothly.
After that, we’ll look at how Trade Unions can boost the Goldsmiths even further, giving you stronger productivity and more efficient Gold production.
Placement
In this section, we’ll look at how to place the Goldsmiths effectively. To start with, the Goldsmiths needs a steady supply of Gold Ore, which can only be mined in the New World. Since the Goldsmiths can only be built in the Old World, you must place it next to either a Warehouse or a Trading Post so it can receive the ore as soon as it arrives.
In addition, the Goldsmiths also requires Coal from the Coal Mine, so placing a Warehouse nearby ensures both resources reach the building quickly and efficiently.

This layout is a very simple setup for the Goldsmiths. To start, the Warehouse sits right next to the Goldsmiths, ensuring that both Gold Ore and Coal reach the building quickly and efficiently.
In addition, this placement helps the refined Gold enter your inventory faster, keeping your production chains running smoothly.
Trade Union
While some Trade Union items can indirectly boost the Goldsmiths, none of them are designed specifically for it. Even so, certain productivity or workforce items can still help, especially if they affect multiple buildings within the Trade Union’s range.
Layouts
In this section, we’ll look at the layouts you can use for the Goldsmiths. To begin with, the Goldsmiths needs both Coal and Gold Ore to operate, and both resources come with placement restrictions. Gold Ore must be mined in the New World from the Gold Mine, while the Goldsmiths can only be built in the Old World.
Because of this, the layout you choose becomes especially important, as the building must receive both resources quickly to stay productive.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the layouts that work well for the Goldsmiths.
Option 1
In this layout, we place the Goldsmiths directly beside a Warehouse. This setup ensures that both Gold Ore from the Gold Mine and the Coal from the Coal Mine reach the building quickly, allowing the Goldsmiths to stay fully supplied and maintain steady production.
From there, the Warehouse sends resources straight into the Goldsmiths, and once the building produces Gold, it moves immediately into your inventory, giving you a fast and reliable output.

Option 2
In this layout, we place the Goldsmiths next to a Warehouse, just like in the previous example. To build on that, we also add a Coal Mine and another Warehouse. This ensures the Coal moves straight into the Goldsmiths without delay.
In addition, this layout includes a Trading Post, which delivers the Gold Ore from the New World.
Together, these placements keep both required resources flowing efficiently, allowing the Goldsmiths to maintain steady production.
