How to produce Pocket Watches in Anno 1800

These are Pocket Watches in Anno 1800. Pocket Watches which are produced at the Clockmakers. The Clockmakers becomes available at the Engineer level and can only be built in the Old World.

What is produced

In this production chain we will be producing Pocket Watches. Pocket Watches can only be produced in the Old World so you will need to transport Gold from the New World to the Old World. They are produced at the Clockmakers and are a Luxury need of both the Engineers and Investors. When taking Pocket Watches on Expeditions they will grant 10 bonus points to Navigation and also 10 bonus points to Morale for every 50 ton taken.

Gold Mine

This is the Gold Mine in Anno 1800. It is used for the production of Gold and can only be placed in the New World. You will only be able to mine Gold Ore at the bottom of mountains. These are what is called Gold Deposits and you will place a Gold Mine on top of these deposits.

To build the Gold Mine it will cost you:

  • $2500 Credits
  • 8 Timber
  • 15 Bricks

You will also need to account for these running costs:

  • -250 Maintenance
  • 100 Obreros
Gold Mine details in Anno 1800
  • Function: To mine Gold Ore.
  • Placement: Can only be placed on top of Gold deposits.
  • Production rate: 0.4 tons per minute
  • Regions: New World
  • Unlocks at: 300 Obreros

Coal mine

You can only build a Coal Mine in specific areas of the map. To find the right spot, start by checking which mining sites are designated for coal. You will have access to the Coal Mine at 250 Artisans and this will mean that you can destroy your Charcoal kilns and move over to Coal Mines for better production rates. For this production chain it will lead into the Goldsmiths for the production of Gold.

To build the Coal mine, you will need the following:

  • $600 credits
  • 4 timber
  • 5 bricks
  • Coal deposit on the island

You will also need the following ongoing costs:

  • 50 workers
  • $50 credits per minute for maintenance

Once these conditions are met, the mine will continuously produce four tons of coal per minute. As a result, you’ll have a steady and reliable supply to keep your furnace running without interruption. Furthermore, this consistent fuel flow helps maintain smooth production, preventing slowdowns. Ultimately, with dependable coal coming in, the rest of your industry can operate at full speed.

  • Function : mines coal.
  • Limitation : can only be placed on coal deposits.
  • Unlocks : unlocks at 250 Artisans.
  • Depletion : Coal mines do not deplete over time.
  • Region : available in the Old World and Cape Trelawney

Sand Mine

This production chain begins with a Sand Mine. The Sand Mine is placed in the Harbour area and can be placed in an Harbour area. It becomes available at the Artisan level and you require 1 Artisan to unlock it. The Sand Mine is a first placement of a factory that you will need to produce Glass for the Pocket Watches.

To build a Sand Mine it will cost you:

  • $2000 Credits
  • 6 Timber
  • 5 Bricks

In addition to the construction costs you will also need to account for the following ongoing costs:

  • 25 Workers
  • – $120 credits per minute in Maintenance

Once you have met these conditions the Sand Mine will then produce two tons of Sand per minute. So your Glassmakers will have a steady flow of Sand for the production of Glass.

Sand Mine details in Anno 1800
  • Function: Harvests sand from the coastline.
  • Placement: Needs free coastline.
  • Production Rate: one ton of sand per minute.
  • Efficiency tip: To keep the Sand mine at 100% productivity ensure you have enough free coastline. Next, ensure you have enough Workers to work the mine.

Goldsmiths

This is the Goldsmiths that turns Gold Ore and Coal into Gold in Anno 1800. Gold is an intermediate item that is used for the production of Jewellery in the Jewellery production chain and Pocket Watches. The Goldsmiths can only be built in the Old World so you will need to transport Gold Ore from the New World to supply the Goldsmiths. You will need to place the Coal Mine either close by or have a Warehouse close by for the delivery of Coal and Gold Ore to the Goldsmiths. The Goldsmiths will produce one ton of Gold every minute from Coal and Gold ore.

To build a Goldsmiths it will cost you:

  • $27000 Credits
  • 8 Timber
  • 15 Bricks
  • 12 Steel Beams
  • 10 Windows
  • 10 Reinforced Concrete

You will also have to account for these running costs:

  • -750 Maintenance
  • 125 Engineers

Glassmakers

Glass in Anno 1800

The Glassmaker is the next step in the production of Glass in Anno 1800, turning raw sand into glass. Glass is a crucial mid game material, and you’ll rely on it not only for windows, but also for items like glasses, light bulbs, once you reach engineer level and several advanced industrial goods.

To begin with, the Glassmaker takes in sand from your Sand Mines and produces glass. As a result, it becomes the central link between your coastal extraction and your more advanced manufacturing buildings.

To build a Glassmaker you will need the following:

  • $5400 credits
  • 6 timber
  • 10 bricks
  • 8 steel beams
  • 4×4 free tile space.

As well as the above cost and materials you will also need the following ongoing items:

  • 100 Artisans
  • $100 credits per minute for maintenance.

Once these costs and materials are set the Glassmaker will reliably produce two tons of glass per minute. As a result, you will have a steady supply of glass for your Windows, Pocket Watches etc in Anno 1800.

Glassmakers details in Anno 1800
  • Function: To turn the harvested sand in to glass.
  • Placement: The glassmaker can be placed anywhere on your island, although ideally it should be placed near to the Sand Mine to cut down on transfer times.
  • Production Rate: Produces two tons of glass per minute.
  • Efficiency tip: To keep the Glassmaker at 100% you need to ensure you have a steady supply of sand and enough Artisans to work the factory.

Clockmakers

This is the Clockmakers in Anno 1800 and takes in both Glass and Gold and converts them into Pocket Watches. The Clockmakers is an essential building when you get further in the game as Pocket Watches are a Luxury need of both Engineers and Investors and provide a good source of income for your islands. The Clockmakers produces 1.33 tons of Pocket Watches every minute.

To build the Clockmakers will cost you:

  • $48000

Layout

Here we will look at the layout to produce maximum efficiency for the Pocket Watches production chain. This layout is more complicated as a core ingredient must be transferred from the New World to the Old World. All of the buildings in this production chain will be placed on the same island except for the Gold Mine that will need to be placed in the New World. As we can see from the layout below we do not include the Gold Mines but does include a trading post for the delivery of Gold Ore to the island. You will also note that the Coal Mine is quite a long way from the other buildings and leads directly into a Warehouse. Along with the other Warehouse will mean that the factories will be supplied efficiently.

Improving the Productivity

When we get further in to the game you will notice that the Trade union becomes available. This building is used for improving buildings that are in its influence range. You will be able to add items to the Trade union that you can get from various places around your Anno 1800 world. When dealing with the Trade union you must ensure that any building is serviced by only one Trade union.

As we can see here we have used the same layout as above but we have added four Trade unions. In this layout none of the Trade unions overlap each other on the buildings so gives good coverage.

Lets now look at what items are available for the different buildings in this production chain.
